HIGH VOLUME PRODUCTION TAPS
The offers exceptional value for high volume tapping. The geometry is optimized for long-chipping steels and stainless steels up to a hardness of 35Rc. Made of Premium High Speed Steel with an enhanced flute design, the offers great chip management, cutting edge strength and wear resistance, resulting in high quality threads. A reduced neck and shorter thread length allow greater coolant flow to the cutting edges for extended tool life.
GEOMETRY
Spiral Point Taps are designed for tapping through holes and blind holes where the hole is sufficiently deep to allow for chip accumulation. The spiral point ejects the chips ahead of the tap, eliminating trapped chips and damage to the threads. Shallower flutes enhance tap strength. Spiral Flute Taps are designed to lift chips up and out of the hole in tapping blind holes, removing chips that can damage threads and break taps. They can also bridge cross- holes, keyways, and other interruptions in the hole. Plug Style (3 - 5 thread chamfer) is the most common chamfer used in tapping applications in through holes and blind holes with sufficient bottom clearance. Modified Bottoming Style (2 - 2-1/2 thread chamfer) allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole but cuts more efficiently than a standard bottoming tap. With a slightly longer chamfer, the cutting load is distributed over a greater number of teeth resulting in better tap life.
SURFACE TREATMENTS
Steam Oxide Over Nitride Finish provides a harder more abrasion resistant finish that also reduces friction, loading and galling, helps retain cutting fluids, improves thread quality, and extends tool life. TiN Coating (Titanium Nitride) increases wear resistance, reduces friction and galling, reduces tapping torque, improves thread quality, and allows increased cutting speeds. Productivity and tool life are improved.
